No Longer If; The Sun Sets

Today’s New York Sun Final Edition, quoting from the front page, “is the final issue.” We are sad. Noticing New York previously reflected on the void that the Sun’s demise would leave: If the Sun Sets, Thursday, September 11, 2008.

Fittingly, if you search the Sun today for the words “eminent domain”, one article comes up (Atlantic Yard Project Suffers a Setback, by Peter Kiefer) which reports on how the legal challenge to the abuse of eminent domain in connection with Atlantic Yards has set back that megaproject. The article quotes Develop Don't Destroy’s Candace Carponter, “. . . the project may not go forward at all.” (If the megaproject doesn’t proceed, there is no doubt that the opportunity will be seized to build, much faster and sooner, a far superior project that does not abuse eminent domain.)

Though this last short article did not make passing comment about how eminent domain abuse drags down the economy while abusing fundamental rights, the Sun during its too-short life provided a superb forum for such points to be made.

The New York Times story today on the closing of the Sun does not mention the Sun’s superior coverage of eminent domain: Losing Money, New York Sun Is to Shut Down, by James Barron.
